Comment on the press release of the TAE from May 18, 2011 “TAE requests controls regarding the construction of motorways in Bulgaria”
As a result of the media interest concerning our press release on the application of EU funds in Bulgaria, we would like to add the following to our aforementioned statement:
It never was and never will be the intention of the Taxpayers Association of Europe (TAE) press release to challenge the politics of the Bulgarian government.
We are of the opinion that the Bulgarian government is heading in the right direction in its fight against corruption and misuse of public funds. This was the fundamental reason why the Bulgarian Prime Minister, Dr. Boyko Borisov, was honoured with the European Taxpayers’ Award in 2009.
We support the fight against corruption and misuse of funds and particularly encourage Bulgaria to consequently pursue this important aim.
For us, it was important to state our concern regarding the motorway construction in Bulgaria - which will use EU funds - in order to demonstrate our solidarity with Bulgaria.
The Bulgarian government informed us that from its point of view such information are unsubstantiated stating that it will nevertheless keep track of this information and promising the Taxpayers Association of Europe the maximum possible transparency in this matter.
