The European Taxpayers Association was founded in Luxembourg in May 1969. The name was changed to the Taxpayers Association of Europe (TAE) in 1996. In 2017, the TAE’s headquarters were moved to Brussels. The European taxpayers’ organisation has offices in Brussels and Munich.

The Taxpayers Association of Europe (TAE) is an association of national taxpayers’ associations and organisations across Europe.

The non-partisan and independent TAE set out its views on tax policy in 1985 at its conference in Brussels in the ‘Magna Carta of European Taxpayers’:

• The TAE advocates for a society with lower and fairer taxes and greater individual freedom.
• The TAE fights against the waste of public funds and for greater efficiency and cost-effectiveness in the public sector.
• The TAE calls for a cap on public debt and transparency in spending.

The TAE Executive Board is currently composed as follows: Michael Jäger, Germany (President), John O’Connell, United Kingdom (Vice-President), Rolf von Hohenhau, Germany (Honorary President), and the Vice-Presidents Reiner Holznagel (Germany), Dr Teemu Lehtinen (Finland) and Christian Ekström (Sweden), as well as Grigol Katamadze (Ukraine). The organisation’s Treasurer is René Nour El Din (Austria) and the Auditors are Larissa Apassova (Ukraine) and Nikolay Popov (Bulgaria). Rudolf G. Maier (Germany) has been appointed as the organisation’s Press Spokesperson. The role of Secretary-General has been assigned to Dr Horst Heitz (Switzerland), who also heads the TAE office in Brussels. The Deputy Secretary-General is Kerstin Kellis (Germany). Johannes Maruschzik (Germany) holds the post of Public Relations Manager. The Eastern Europe Coordinator is Dr Ralf Schneider (Germany).
