The Taxpayers Association of Europe (TAE) is appalled by the plans for the EU asset register.

President Rolf von Hohenhau calls for civil resistance and fears the end of the EU.

The European Taxpayers’ Association (TAE) firmly rejects the European Commission’s plans for a wealth register. TAE President Rolf von Hohenhau: “If citizens accept this, they will lose all their personal rights through a bureaucratic back door. The monitoring of cash flows, investments and assets is contrary to human dignity. Under the guise of combating money laundering, we are all to be scrutinised. Civil disobedience is now called for. People should take to the streets, just like the Yellow Vests in France. I’m sorry to have to say this, but this is about freedom.”

The Taxpayers’ Association’s sharp criticism stems from the European Commission’s plan to introduce a European asset register. The EU is now to examine, as part of a feasibility study, whether and to what extent such a register would be feasible.

Initial resistance is already emerging in the media. Journalists are talking about the “danger of the transparent citizen”. Insiders in Brussels emphasise that this could spell the end of the EU as we know it.

According to von Hohenhau, the measures adopted in Europe – which are being taken senselessly and without understanding, out of the political caste’s sheer lust for power – would cause support for Europe to dwindle massively. Brexit is merely the first domino to fall. The Green Deal is a money-wasting machine that defies all scientific evidence. And now there is the EU asset register, which is based on voyeuristic greed. EU Commission President von der Leyen appears to have lost control of the Commission and must act swiftly and decisively to regain her power and put an end to such destructive ideas.
