Enough of this EU madness! Christmas must remain Christmas!

Even though the European Commission in Brussels promptly withdrew its guidelines on language use, this shows just how far European bureaucracy has now distanced itself from the European public. The European Taxpayers’ Association (TAE) condemns in the strongest possible terms such attempts to distort the Christian-Western value system.

The EU Commissioner for Equality, Helena Dalli, had advised against using the terms ‘Christmas’ or ‘Mary and Joseph’. The reason: other cultures might feel discriminated against as a result. Therefore, the holy couple should be called Malika and Julio.

TAE Secretary-General Michael Jäger said: “In our view, the fact that the directive was withdrawn immediately is merely a ploy. The aim is to test how the public reacts, so that inhumane and arbitrary harassment and the patronising treatment of citizens can later be imposed through the back door.”

According to Jäger, the language directive is merely the latest example. In recent months, the European Commission has been working on a feasibility study into the introduction of an asset register, in which all assets – including works of art, collectables, gold and property – are to be recorded. Furthermore, the EU is considering graphic warnings on beer bottles and a more stringent taxonomy – in other words, autonomous control of investments.

Jäger describes the European Commission’s behaviour in very strong terms: “This is an encroachment on its own population. We can no longer let this go unchallenged. The state parliaments are called upon to intervene here! Politicians must finally regain control of their administration, which has got out of hand.”
