Against standardisation and centralism
The Taxpayers Association of Europe (TAE) collaborated with the renowned online portal Statista to examine the key tax and financial data for the EU.
The following findings are relevant:
The tax burden on all EU citizens is rising steadily.

Where income tax does not bear the main burden, tax authorities raise revenue through excise duties. These excise duties are also intended to influence citizens’ behaviour.

Interestingly, it is precisely those countries with lower tax rates that are experiencing the highest economic growth.

Rolf von Hohenhau, President of the TAE, emphasises: “The figures show that high taxes dramatically weaken the economy. That is why taxes must be cut – and immediately!”
Following the European Conference, it is now time to initiate the necessary reforms. The TAE opposes new and higher taxes; we are committed to maintaining the principle of unanimity in the Council and will fight against any proposals for undifferentiated tax harmonisation and minimum tax rates.
