2010 TAE Prize awarded to Viviane Reding, Vice-President of the European Commission
The European Taxpayers’ Prize, which will be awarded for the twelfth time by the European Taxpayers’ Association in Brussels on 22 March 2011, goes to Viviane Reding, Vice-President of the European Commission.
Viviane Reding is being honoured for her many years of service as an EU Commissioner. It is largely thanks to her initiative that high EU roaming charges are now a thing of the past. Despite resistance from national regulatory authorities and influential politicians, she championed Europe-wide, low-cost internet telephony. Thanks to Reding, millions of European consumers are increasingly able to use cost-saving services such as Skype on their mobile phones. In her new role as EU Commissioner for Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship, she continues to vigorously champion the interests of citizens.
The award ceremony will take place on 22 March 2011 from 7.00 pm to 9.30 pm at the Baden-Württemberg Representation, Rue Belliard 60–62, 1040 Brussels.
TAE President Rolf von Hohenhau will welcome all those present. Udo van Kampen, Head of the ZDF studio in Brussels, will deliver the laudatory speech.
Following the ceremony, a reception will be held at the Baden-Württemberg Reception in Brussels.
The awards ceremony is being organised in cooperation with the European Economic Senate (EWS).
